Artificialism, Time Windows | Intercative Storytelling

THE PROJECT

This project is a non-linear text-adventure game, that was developed with the help of the open-source tool "Twine". Twine is based on HTML, which allows the game to be played in web. The story follows partly linear and branched storylines that display a conversation between the player and two other entities: A priest from the future named Elai, and his God, an artificial intelligence.

THE PLOT

Decades after the discovery of time particles in the 2100s, it was possible to use them for the development of so-called "time windows" - programmes that allow conversations with people of the past. The use of such windows is reserved for only a few people. Social rank and the urgency of time travel determine by whom and when these windows may be opened. Elai, a priest from the future, is one of these people.
With the help of such a window, he contacts the players from his timeline, the year 2162, and wants to talk to them about the religion of the future – Artificialism. A faith in which the deity is an artificial intelligence.
The story explores a possible future that is by no means inconceivable and tries to draw comparisons to the present time in order to shed the absurdity of the topic and make the players think.
